Yoshinori Ohsumi wins Nobel prize 2016 in medicine for Autophagy

 

 

Yoshinori Ohsumi gets Nobel Prize 2016 for Physiology and Medicine for work on Autophagy

Autophagy is the process by which the cells of the body breaks down and recycles cellular components.

Yoshinori has completed his PhD from University of Tokyo and currently he is working in Tokyo Institution of Technology as a professor.

He has shown the importance of autophagy in many physiological processes, he has explained through his research the process of adapting the body starvation or how the body responds to starvation.

The noble prize winner Mr. Ohsumi was chosen by the Noble Assembly at the Karolinska Institute.

The noble Prize winners are chosen whose discoveries have enhanced the understanding of life.

As a Cash prize, 8 million dollars are awarded to the Nobel Prize winners.
