WTO meet India to focus on inequalities and distortion of farmers

 

 

WTO meeting held to focus a level playing field, remove inequalities and distortions of farmers in Agriculture trade practises

A mini-ministerial gathering of Key Ministers of World Trade Organisation took place in Oslo on 21-22 October.

This meeting was held to discuss various issues relating to WTO negotiations and set the stage for Eleventh Ministerial Conference held in Argentina in December 2016.

Discuss issues relating to inequalities, distortions of farmers, level playing field

In this meeting India has called for a level playing field for developing countries in the agriculture trade practises to protect the livelihood of millions of farmers.

In the meeting, commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman represented India and she stated the need for creating a level playing field for the developing countries.

 She stated that by focusing on inequalities and misrepresentations which threaten millions of farmers must be removed.

The special and differential provisions of fisheries subsidies must be paid attention into to the livelihood and food security concerns.

She also focused on the importance of adequate policy for the developing countries and emphasis the primacy of Multilateralism.
