Bajrang Punia World Number One Wrestler In 65 Kg Category

 

 

Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Poonia won the top world ranking in the 65 kg category on Saturday. Bajrang, 24, who won 5 medals in this season, is running on top of the ranking table with 96 points in the UWW's list. This year, he won gold in the Commonwealth and Asian Games, besides winning the Silver Medal at the World Championship.

This session was outstanding for Bajrang and he was the only Indian wrestler to get preference in the Budapest World Championship. Bajrang has maintained a strong foothold on the second place in the Alejandro Enrique Vallados Tobiyer, which has 66 points. Bajrang defeated Tobiyer in the near semi-final of the World Championships.

Akhmed Chakiev of Russia (62) third, while new world champion Takuto Otoguro (56) is in fourth place. Following is the number of Selahatin Kilisalan (50) of Turkey. Bajrang, who is the only male wrestler in the country, has been ranked in the top 10 in the ranking, while 5 women's wrestlers of India have managed to make the top-10 in their respective categories.

Pooja Dhanda, who became the fourth Indian woman wrestler to win a medal in world championship, is in sixth position with 52 points in 57 kg category of women. He won bronze in the world championship. Ritu is 10th in the 50 kg category of Phogat women with 33 points. Sarita More, 59, with 29 points in the category of 7th, Navjot Kaur (32) and Kiran (37) are ninth in the 68 and 76 kg category respectively.
