World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated every year on 27th September around the world to raise awareness about the importance of tourism.
World Tourism Day observance aims to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
World Tourism Day 2019 theme is ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’. The theme focuses to show the importance of digitally advanced tourism sector for improving entrepreneurship, inclusion, local community empowerment, and efficient resource management, amongst other important development objectives.
World Tourism Day marks adaptation of Statutes of UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) on 27 September 1970. It was first celebrated in the year 1980.
World Tourism Day purposes to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals.
