World Maritime Day is celebrated every year on the last Thursday of September to acknowledge the maritime industry and to highlight the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and marine environment and to acknowledge maritime industry.
This year World Maritime Day is observed on 26th September 2019 with the theme as “Empowering women in the maritime community".The theme provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
World Maritime Day marks the date of adaptation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention in 1958.
World Maritime Day was first observed in the year 1978.
