World Asthma Day Observed On 1st May 2018- Theme Importance About
World Asthma Day is observed every year on the first week of May across the world to raise awareness of Asthma.
World Asthma Day an annual event is been organised worldwide by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to improve asthma awareness and care around the world. It was first celebrated in the year 1998.
This year 20th annual World Asthma Day-2018 is observed on 1st May 2018 in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
World Asthma Day-2018 theme is "Never too early, never too late. It's always the right time to address airways disease".
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic disease that produces conditions which cause breathlessness, wheezing and coughing & chest tightness.
According to the WHO report, a total of 235 million people in the world are suffering from asthma. It commonly attacks children, adolescent and adults.
As a health condition, asthma cannot be cured but can be controlled by bringing in a few lifestyle changes.
Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA)
The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) was formally established in the year 1993 as a collaboration between National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization.
GINA works as a medical guidelines organisation which works with an objective to reduce asthma prevalence, morbidity and mortality rate worldwide.
GINA conducts a continuous review of scientific publications on asthma and is a leader in disseminating information about the care of patients with asthma.
