16 October: World Food Day 2019 Celebrations Details, Aim, Significance, History

World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October around the world 0to mark the foundation of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945.

World Food Day 2019 theme is “Our Actions Are Our Future Healthy Diets For A #ZeroHunger World

World Food Day is observed as a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger and aims to raise public awareness about hunger challenges and encourage people around the world to take action in the fight against hunger.

World Food Day also shows commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.

On World Food Day, various events are organized to celebrate this day which promotes worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

World Food Day was instituted in November 1979 by FAO’s Member Countries at its 20th General Conference to raise awareness of issues behind poverty and hunger.
