The Government of India has launched 100% Oxo-Biodegradable Sanitary Pads under the name ‘Suvidha’ for improving women’s menstrual hygiene on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Ananth Kumar pronounced the launch of ‘Suvidha’under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) on 8th March 2018, at an event in New Delhi.
Minister Ananth Kumar informed that the affordable sanitary napkin ‘Suvidha’ will be available in a pack of four pads for Rs.10 (Rs. 2.50 per pad).
Ananth Kumar further informed that in its first phase, ‘Suvidha’ sanitary napkin will be available to sell in over 3,200 PMBJP Kendra’s across India. It will be available from 28th May 2018.
Ananth Kumar proclaimed that ‘Suvidha’ initiative would ensure ‘Swachhta, Swasthya and Suvidha’ for the underprivileged Women of India. The Department of Pharmaceuticals will ensure the achievement of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Affordable and Quality Healthcare for All’.
According to the National Family Health Survey, more than two-thirds of women in urban areas use hygienic methods of menstrual protection during periods, but this number is not even half in rural areas.
Women’s poor menstrual hygiene can cause fatal infections, reproductive tract infection, urinary tract infection, cervical cancer and infertility.
