West Bengal Government has launched a new scheme called ‘Rupashree’ on 1st April 2018, for securing young girls future.
The Rupashree scheme aims to provide financial marriage support to poor girls, those are from economically weaker families with a budgetary allocation of Rs 1500 crore.
The Rupashree scheme was proposed by the West Bengal’s Finance Minister, Amit Mitra during the presentation of the state budget for 2018-19. It is expected to benefit around 6 lakh families annually.
The Rupashree scheme will provide one-time financial assistance worth Rs 25,000 to the girl whose family annual income is up to Rs 1.5 lakh.
The Rupashree scheme monetary assistance will be provided at the time of marriage only after the girl has attained the age of 18 years. No minimum educational qualification of a girl is required to apply for the scheme.
Under the Rupashree scheme, young girls need to fill the application form before her marriage and submit it to the office of Block Development Officer or Municipality Office to avail scheme benefits.
