India’s Vice President Venkaih Naidu Reached Guatemala Signed Several Agreements- Details
India’s Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu is on a five-day visit to South America's Guatemala, Peru and Panama.
Venkaiah Naidu on his first leg of his visit reached Guatemala and held bilateral talks with Guatemalan Vice President Jafeth Cabrera and President Jimmy Morales Cabrera.
This is the first ever visit of an Indian Vice President to the Republic of Guatemala.
India and Guatemala have agreed to promote trade and economic relations and called upon the private sectors to explore and take advantage of the pro-business climate existing in both countries.
India and Guatemala also signed an agreement for strengthening diplomatic cooperation through education.
India and Guatemala on 8th May 2018 also have agreed to support each other's candidature for the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as they sought to push the 'complementary' and 'not competitive' nature of bilateral relations to a new level.
India agreed to Guatemala's request to supply solar panels to its airports. India will also train Guatemalan diplomats and English teachers in the country.
Guatemala will support India's candidature for UNSC membership for 2021-22, while New Delhi will do so in 2031-32 for Guatemala.
Venkaiah Naidu addressing Guatemalan leaders proclaimed that "India is keen on enhancing its engagement with Latin America and looks at Guatemala, the most populous and biggest economy in Central America, act as the gateway.
