The Uttarakhand Government has decided to completely ban the use of polythene or plastic from 31st July 2018.
The Uttarakhand Govt step is taken with an aim to suppress the unchecked use of plastic, which is increasingly becoming a huge environmental challenge. The announcement was made by the state on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June 2018.
All the polythene vendors in Uttarakhand state have been ordered to finish the polythene stock before 31st July 2018.
According to the state’s Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, environmental conservation is a collective responsibility and so people's cooperation is necessary to make Uttarakhand polythene-free.
In Dehradun on the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat stated, a comprehensive public awareness campaign will be launched on environmental damage caused by polythene, one week before the entire ban on polythene in the state.
