Uttar Pradesh Government Launched Ganga Hariteema Yojana on 7th April 2018- Details, Purpose, Benefits

Uttar Pradesh Government launched the Ganga Hariteema Yojana, also called as Ganga Greenery scheme, on 7th April 2018 in the 27 districts of Uttar Pradesh that are situated on the bank of river Ganga.

The Ganga Greenery scheme was launched by Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Allahabad in a function organised on the bank of ‘Sangam’, the confluence of rivers of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati.

The Ganga Greenery scheme main aim is to enhance the green cover in the catchment areas of the river Ganga and to control the land erosion.

Under the Ganga Greenery scheme, the plantation will be carried out within one-kilometer areas from the banks of the river.

Under the Ganga Greenery scheme, people leaving nearby will also be encouraged for plantation on their private lands under 'One Person One Tree' slogan.

For the implementation of the Ganga Greeneryscheme, a high power committee under the shield of Chief Minister and Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Rajeev Kumar will monitor over the contribution of different departments.

Department of Forest has been nominated as a nodal department for the scheme. StateGovernments of seven state departments have been engaged for implementation of the scheme.

The Ganga Greeneryscheme will be incorporated from 16th September 2018, on the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2018.
