The Pulitzer Prizes-2018 winners were announced on 16th April 2018 at Columbia University in New York City.
The Pulitzer Prize-2018 in the Public Service was shared by ‘The New York Times’ for reporting led by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey and ‘
The New Yorker’ for reporting by Ronan Farrow. The New York Times and The New Yorker newspapers unveiled the powerful and wealthy sexual predators including one of the Hollywood’s most influential producers Harvey Weinstein.
Both the newspaper's revelations inspired the global (#MeToo) movement that led to talks about gender and power dynamics in the workplace.
Moreover, this year, Reuters won the Pulitzer Prize in two categories- one is ‘International Reporting’ for coverage of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs and other in the ‘Feature Photography’ category for coverage of the ‘Rohingya Issue’.
The Pulitzer Prize is an annual award for achievements in newspaper, magazine and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States.
The Pulitzer Prize was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of American-Hungarian newspaper publisher and master of yellow journalism Joseph Pulitzer.
The Pulitzer Prize is administered by Columbia University in New York City. Prizes are awarded yearly in 21 categories.
The Pulitzer Prizes in 20 categories, each winner awarded with a certificate and US$15,000 cash award while the winner in the public service category of the journalism is awarded a ‘Gold Medal’.
