25 June: Day of the Seafarer 2019 Theme, Campaign, Features, Aim, History

Day of the Seafarer is observed every year on 25th June around the world to recognize that almost everything that we use in our daily lives has been directly or indirectly affected by sea transport.

Day of the Seafarer not only acknowledges the invaluable work of seafarers but also aims to bring global attention to the issues affecting their work and lives, such as piracy. 

Day of the Seafarer 2019 theme is - "I Am On Board with gender equality".

Day of the Seafarer was declared in the year 2010, by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as a way to give thanks to seafarers for their contribution to the world economy and the civil society; and for the risks and personal costs, they bear while on their jobs.

Day of the Seafarer was first celebrated in the year 2011, after adoption by the United Nations (UN).
