International Day of UN Peacekeepers Observed On 29th May 2018- Theme, Significance, History

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed on 29th May every year around the world to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers also marked the UN peacekeepers high level of bravery, dedication, and professionalism and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers-2018 theme is "UN Peacekeepers: 70 Years of Service and Sacrifice”.

International Day of UN Peacekeepers-2018 theme marks the 70th anniversary of UN peacekeeping, which is a distinctive and dynamic instrument developed to help countries. The first UN peacekeeping mission was established on 29 May 1948 in Arab-Israeli War.

International Day of UN Peacekeepers designated by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 57/129, on 11th December 2002, after an official recommendation of the Ukrainian Peacekeepers Association and the Government of Ukraine to the UNGA 

International Day of UN Peacekeepers was first celebrated at the United Nations headquarter in New York in the year 2003.
