Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has approved Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Suriname.
The MoU was signed focusing on the cooperation areas in the field of electoral management and administration between India and Suriname.
The MoU was signed with an aim to exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of organizational and technical development of electoral process; support in exchanging information, institutional strengthening and capacity building, training of personnel, holding regular consultations etc.
India and Suriname established their diplomatic relations in 1976. India opened its embassy in Paramaribo in 1977, and Suriname opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2000. Suriname also has an honorary consul in Bangalore.
India and Suriname over the years had successfully formulated & maintained bilateral relations in the field of trade, foreign aid, medical, economy & culture among others.
