The Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has launched the Gangotri Swachh Iconic Place Project and Swajal Project on 20th February 2018 in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti inaugurated the Swajal project which is a community-owned drinking water programme for sustained drinking water supply, at a budget of Rs 32 lakh.
Uma Bharti also launched Gangotri as Swachh Iconic Places and informed that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) with its CSR fund will help in taking Gangotri to a higher level of ‘Â’ cleanliness.
The Gangotri Swachh Iconic Places project is coordinated by Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation (MDWS), in association with Union Ministries of Housing & Urban Affairs, Tourism, Culture, state governments, municipal and local agencies.
Uma Bharti while addressing the people said these both projects will create cleanliness and will ensure basic amenities to the people of Ganga bank villages. It will also generate various employments.
Uma Bharti on the occasion also proclaimed the initiative of ‘Bagori Ganga Gram’ project for the Uttarakhand’s Bagori village, which was declared Open Defecation Free (ODF)
The Bagori Ganga Gram project is a solid and liquid waste management scheme with a total expense of Rs 11.88 lakh. Bagori is one of 24 pilot Ganga Villages identified to be transformed into Ganga Grams by the year 2018.
