Tuirial dam is an earthen and gravity dam, built over the Tuirial River, near Kolasib district of Mizoram in India.
The main objective to construct Tuirial dam is to produce hydroelectric power.
After the completion of the Tuirial Hydel Project, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the project on 16th December 2017.
Construction of the Tuirial Hydro Electric Power Project as a Central Sector Project started in 1998 by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) under the Ministry of Power.
In June 2004, after completion of about 30 % of the project, the Tuirial Hydel project workings was totally terminated due to some local concern.
In 2010 after many hindrances, The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the Tuirial Hydro Electric Project and the working on the project resumed in January 2011.
After the completion of the Tuirial Hydel Project, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the project on 16th December 2017.
The Tuirial Hydel Project had made Mizoram the third power-surplus state in the North-Eastern region after Tripura and Sikkim.
