Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar Profile: Law, career, achievements, judgements, controversies in judgements for bribe

Jagdish Singh Khehar is the 1st Chief Justice of India from Sikh community.

Jagdish Singh Khehar was born on 28th August in 1952 in Punjab.

He has been Judge in Supreme court of India since 13th September 2011. He retires on  27 August 2017 upon superannuation.

Important cases and Judgements

Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar led the five-judge constitution bench in the Supreme Court which struck down the controversial NJAC Act for appointment of judges in 2015.

Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar is  also a part of the bench which sent Sahara chief Subrata Roy to jail while hearing the matter relating to the refund of money invested by people in his two companies.

There are many high points in the career of Justice Jadgish Singh Khehar with the numerous controversies which have been raised in his name.

The most famous controversy was the one wherein Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul's death.

Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar career

The commiittee on Judicial Accountability had published the suicide letter of Kalikho wherein Jagdish Singh Khehar had asked for bribe of 31 crore and 49 crore respectively for delivering the matter in Kalikho Pul's favour.

The high court gave the statement that the petition of the suicide note was not authentical and hence Jagdish Singh Khehar was found not guilty.

Jagdish Singh Khehar is also been the justice of Karnataka High Court since August 2010 till Seotember 2011 along with being the justice of Uttarakhand High Court from 29 November 2009 – 7 August 2010.
