A new termite species of damp wood category Glyptotermes Chiraharitae was discovered at Kerala in Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary.
There are three types of termite species damp wood, dry wood and subterranean.
They infect the parts of wood which have high moisture content and they live in wood.
The other termite species attack on sal, mango, Rhododendron, silver oak, jamun trees and many others.
In india around 286 species are found and 61 of them are only found in Kerala.
They are the part of damp wood termites generally found in attics and they require moisture in wood to eat.
The adult of these species measure around 9mm to 10mm long.
