Muthuvel Karunanidhi also popularly known as 'Kalaignar' (artist) was an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu appointed for five different terms (1969–2011). He created a record by winning all the 13 Assembly elections he had contested since 1957.
M Karunanidhi was born on 3rd June 1924 to parents named Muthuvelu and Anju in Thirukuvalai, Madras Presidency, British India (now in Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu), India.
M Karunanidhi married three times with Padmavathi Ammal, Dayalu Ammal, Rajathi Ammal and have 6 children.
M Karunanidhi died on 7th August 2018 at the age of 94 years in Chennai, after a long age-related illness which led to multiple-organ failure.
M Karunanidhi from his childhood and school days was more interested in drama, poetry, and literature.
M Karunanidhi began his career as a screenwriter in the Tamil film industry. His first movie as s screenwriter was Rajakumari (1947). He last wrote a historic movie Ponnar Shankar in 2011. His most notable movie was Parasakthi (1952) and many more.
M Karunanidhi joined a political party called Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the year 1949.
