India’s First Insect Museum Inaugurated in Tamil Nadu- Details, Features, Facility 

India’s first insect museum with modern amenities is established at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University campus in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

India’s first insect museum was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswamy on 26th March 2018.

India’s first insect museum was established with an approx cost of Rs 5 crores instituted with an aim to enthuse and motivate general public, students, research scholars and farmers about the subject.  

India’s first of its kind insect museum has been established at an area of 6,691sq.ft. It is fully dedicated to showcase insects preserved as specimens and as live ones representing their different developmental stages.

India’s first insect museum will demonstrate information about insects through images, videos and models exhibiting their unique behavior, habits and habitats.

India’s first insect museum distinctiveness is clearly visible in the museum’s lobby, which represents the theme, "BUGS ARE KINGS," while the exhibiting area comprises seven radial walls (bay) on the right side and an undivided wall on the left side.

India’s first insect museum also has a section on social insect demonstrating termite mounds (whole and sectioned) and bee-hives of different kinds and forms would also be exhibited.

India’s first insect museum has a souvenir shop and a mini auditorium to screen insect movies and documentary films are available. A ramp is also provided to facilitate the visit of the physically disabled persons.
