Tamil Nadu has the highest number of endemic flowering plants in the country stated by the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
Tamil Nadu has 410 species which is the highest in India and after that Kerala having 357 species.
India only produces different varieties of Black plum (Jamun), Musa (banana) and orchids.
According to geographical distribution of endemic plants, Western Ghats produces the highest endemic species followed by Eastern Himalayas.
Some plants like insectivorous plants are constrained to certain areas like the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
Different varieties of roses, herbs, climbers and jasmines are found only in India.
Many spices such as ginger, black pepper and cardamom are also exclusively found in India.
In all the endemic flowering plants, 53% are herbs, 20% are shrubs and 15% are trees.
