The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in a statement, proclaimed the first flight of Hawk-i with indigenous Real Time Operating System (RTOS) on 7th February 2018.
HAL Chairman & Managing Director, T Suvarna Raju informed that Hawk-i will be the first indigenous RTOS developed from scratch in India by HAL.
T Suvarna Raju further added that Hawk-i is certified by Center for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), which is a part of DRDO.
The RTOS is the system software which provides a standard run-time environment for real-time applications execution in a safe and reliable manner.
In India, the RTOS is commercially imported from foreign trade which is very costly, provides rigid incorporation to latest features and majorly are unsafe to cyber-attacks which may compromise the safety and security of the avionics system.
The HAL in order to achieve this self-dependency had designed an indigenous RTOS system for safety-critical and mission-critical avionics systems in India.
The HAL-RTOS supports Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture with crucial features that include address, space and time partitioning, priority pre-emptive process scheduling and health monitoring.
With this development, the HAL-RTOS can be made as a standard Real-Time Operating System for any future avionics systems development in India.
