Indian swimmer, Sampanna Ramesh Shelar created the world record to double cross Bangla Channel on 13th April 2018.
Sampanna Ramesh Shelar (17 years old) who hails from Pune, Maharashtra with his feat became the first person in the world to swim to and fro from Saint Martin's Island Jetty to Teknaf in Bangladesh also known as the Bangla Channel.
SR Shelar started swimming at about 5 am on 13th April 2018 and completed the journey of 32.2 kilometers in only 9 hours and 10 minutes.
SR Shelar after registering his feat proclaimed that this was his first international solo ocean event and he will totally pay his achievement credit to his coach Jitendra Khasnin,
SR Shelar further informed that two main difficulties he faced were the fishes and high tides. He said when he was close to finishing point high tides started which almost blocked his way for a long time.
Earlier, SR Shelar started with 40 km/hour speed at Gujarat where he had set a national record.
SR Shelar is getting trained since he was 13 years old. He has been practicing at Shark Aquatic Club situated at Pune and this is his maiden international record.
SR Shelar is now planning to participate in the upcoming swimming competition to be held in Bhagirathi River for 81 km.
