The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will send first-ever mission named as InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) dedicated to exploring the deep interiors or core of Mars.
The NASA’s InSight mission will be a stationary lander and is scheduled to take place on 5th May 2018. It will be the first NASA mission since the Apollo moon landings to place seismometer, a device that measures quakes on the soil of another planet.
According to the principal investigator for InSight, Bruce Banerdt InSight is just like a scientific time machine that will bring back information about the earliest stages of Mars’ formation 4.5 billion years ago.
The InSight mission to Mars will help scientist learn how rocky bodies are formed, including Earth, the Moon, and even rest of planets in other solar systems. It will also let scientists understand how different its crust, mantle and core are from Earth.
The InSight or the Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport mission, carries a suite of sensitive instruments to gather data.
As per US Agency NASA officials, InSight currently is at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and is undergoing final preparation before its scheduled launch in May 2018.
