In a bid, to engage college students in the Government’s Swachhata Abhiyan (cleanliness work), the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has introduced a Swachh Bharat Summer Internship-2018 (SBSI), for them to conduct sanitation drives in villages during summer vacation.
According to an official statement released on 29th March 2018, the initiative will be launched by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the convening and coordinating Ministry of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in association with Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The SBSI-2018 main aim is to engage lakhs of educated youth across India to develop their skills and orientation for sanitation sector, enhancing mass awareness and encourage people’s movement (Jan Andolan) in respect of SBM.
Under the terms of the SBSI-2018 internship, candidates would be required to undertake 100 hours of activities including creation of sanitation infrastructure, system building and behavior change campaigns in and around nearby villages.
As per the statement, every intern who will complete the SBSI-2018 internship program will be provided a Certificate of Internship by the Swachh Bharat Mission. Best Intern will also be recognised on State/UTs and National level.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had also agreed to provide 2 credit points as an elective under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to students in higher educational institutions who would be undertaking and completing the SBSI-2018 internship program.
