Bharat Stage Emission Standards are those standards which the government has made for motor vehicles to regulate pollutants in the environment. Bharat Stage-6 (or BS-6) emission rules will be effective from April 1, 2020.
Justice Madan B. The Bench of 3 judges, headed by Lokur, made it clear that from the said date the sale of compatible vehicles of BS-6 in the entire country could be sold. The bench said that it is time to move towards more clean fuel.
BS-4 rules are applicable in the country from April 2017. In 2016, the Center had announced that the adoption of BS-5 rules in the country would be implemented by 2020 without the BS-6 rules.
