The holy temple Sri Ranganathaswamy of Srirangam in Tamil Nadu on 3rd November 2017, won UNESCO Asia Pacific Award of Merit 2017 for cultural heritage conservation programme.
The temple of Sri Ranganathaswamy is the first temple from Tamil Nadu to win the prize from the UN body.
The temple of Sri Ranganathaswamy won the award for its efforts to protect and conserve cultural heritage.
The two key parameter that made the temple most eligible to win the award including, its traditional method of renovating temple premises.
As well as re-establishment of rainwater harvesting and historic drainage system in preventing flooding.
