The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (WRCRCD) is marked to recognize the extraordinary contribution and incredible achievements of the stalwarts and volunteers around the world for helping the people in need anytime, anywhere.
The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (WRCRCD) also mark the birth anniversary Jean Henry Dunant, who was born 8 May 1828. He was the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
The movement was started in Europe as Red Crescent Society but in 1876, after Turkey adopted the name, the movement spread to other parts of the world, including the Muslim majority regions. The facility of blood transfusion by Red Cross and Red Crescent agency is the main function in the times of peace and war
