Iran joined Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a Permanent Member, Detail

The decision to admit Iran as a full member of the Shanghai Cooperative Organization(SCO) was made at the Shanghai Cooperative Organization (SCO's) 21st summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Iran had previously been a member of the organization as an observer.

Iran will become a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperative Organization(SCO) as of today, according to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who addressed the meeting remotely. The complete membership of Iran was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Shanghai Five, which included China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, created a mutual security agreement in 1996. On June 15, 2001, the presidents of these countries plus Uzbekistan gathered in Shanghai to announce the formation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which India and Pakistan joined on June 9, 2017.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), often known as the Shanghai Pact, is a political, economic, and security alliance in Eurasian countries. It covers three-fifths of the Eurasian continent, 40% of the worldwide population, and more than 20% of global GDP, making it the world's largest regional organization in terms of geographic extent and population.

With the addition of Iran, the group currently has nine members: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan. The SCO's headquarters are in China's Bejing.
The complete membership of Iran was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
