Sameer Verma won the title of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championship

 

 

Syed Modi International Badminton Championship tournament was established in 1991 by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association in memory of Commonwealth Games champion Syed Modi.

It was a national level tournament till 2003, but after 2004, it has been recognized as international competition since then foreign players also started taking part in it.

India's star shuttler Sameer Verma won the title of Syed Modi International Badminton Championship for the second consecutive year on 25 November 2018, defeating Chinese Premier Li Guangzhou. In the title match, he defeated China's Lou Gwangju 16-21, 21-19, 21-14 in the title match.

Sameer Verma has won the title for the second consecutive time. He defeated B Sai Praneeth last year and made the title his name. He also retained this title this year. At the same time, Samir compatriot shuttler P Kashyap is the second Indian male shuttler to win this tournament twice. Kidambi Srikanth in the year 2016 before Sameer and P Kashyap became champion in 2015.
