Russia Successfully Test Fired Its ICBM ‘Sarmat’ Missile- Details, Features, Background

Russia has successfully conducted another test of its Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) ‘RS-28 Sarmat Missile’ on 30th March 2018.

The ICBM ‘RS-28 Sarmat Missile’ test was conducted from Plesetsk Cosmodrome Spaceport situated at Mirny, Arkhangelsk Oblast in Russia.

As per the Russian Defense Ministry, the Sarmat Missile test confirmed the system's parameters in the stage of pre-launch preparations and the initial flight of the missile. It will get commissioned into service by the year 2020.

The ICBM Sarmat Missile can carry an array of warheads capable of dodging missile defenses. It has a capacity to strike aircraft carriers, destroyers, and cruisers.

The ICBM Sarmat Missile weights about 100 tons and is the most dangerous missiles in the world, It cannot be destroyed by any anti-ballistic missile guided system.

The ICBM Sarmat Missile has the capacity to reach any point in the world approx 10,000 Km of range. Its test launch marks the second time as it has been fired since December 2017.

The ICBM Sarmat is a heavy liquid-propellant ICBM capable of carrying nuclear charges. It is being under development in Russia since the 2000s.

The ICBM Sarmat main aim is to replace the ICBM ‘R-36M2 Voyevoda’, which is Russia’s only Strategic Missile Force since 1988.

The name Sarmat is based upon the nomadic Sarmatian tribes which used to live between and century BC in current territories of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
