India is collaborating with Russia to build Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh which will be India's first atomic energy venture abroad.
Atomic Energy Commission chairman Sekhar Basu has Cleared that Russian and Bangladeshi partners on establishing Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh at the 61st general conference of the global nuclear watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh will be the first initiative under an India-Russia nuclear deal to undertake atomic energy projects in a third country.
Rooppur Nuclear project (capacity of 2*1200 MWs) is Bangladesh’s first atomic energy project and is being built with Russia’s help near Dhaka.
After commissioning of two units, each with a capacity of 1200 MWs, Bangladesh will be the third South Asian country after India and Pakistan to harness atomic energy for energy purpose.
The first units of Rooppur Nuclear power expected to go live by 2023.
