Biology: Ribosome Structure, Functions

Ribosome Structure, the function for living cell

Each ribosome is made up of two rounded subunits. They have a small and a large subunit. Both form a complete ribosome with each other. The 70S ribosome has large subunit 50S and small subunit 30S.

The 80S ribosome has a large subunit 60S and smaller subunit 40S. As we know, ribosomes are made of RNA and protein complexes and hence, it is a ribonucleoprotein.

It is composed of two parts, called subunit. The mRNA is connected and decoded in small subunit. Whereas amino acids are added to large subunit. Both sub-units are composed of proteins and ribonucleic acid components.

These two subunits interact with each other and in a subunit, rRNA and other subunits are added to proteins. Sometimes, many ribosomes together form a composition called polyribosomes or polysomes.

Ribosomes are a cell or capillary structure that makes proteins. Protein is needed to direct functions or functions of many cells such as repair or chemical processes. Ribosomes can be found to be associated with floating or endoplasmic reticulum within the cytoplasm.

The main function of the meaning ribosome is to help in protein synthesis by amino acids. Free ribosomes leave the proteins in the cytosol and they are used within the cell.
