India and Cyprus on 3rd September 2018 signed several important agreements in many fields to strengthen bilateral ties between both the nations.
Indian President Kovind is on a three-nation visit to Europe to continue India's high-level engagements with European countries. Apart from Cyprus, Kovind will visit Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. This is his first overseas state visit in the second year of his presidency.
The sigh of agreements followed a delegation-level talk between Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, both the leaders held the discussion on issues of mutual importance for the two countries.
First MoU was signed between Financial Intelligence Unit of India and Unit for Combating Money Laundering of Cyprus on combating money laundering. This agreement would further strengthen the institutional framework to facilitate investment cross-flows.
Second MoU was signed for cooperation in the field of environment.
Apart from the signing of these MoUs, India, and Cyprus agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of IT, tourism, shipping and renewable energy.
India and Cyprus also stressed determination to cooperate in the field of eradication of international terrorism and for cooperation in the field of clean energy.
