Rajiv Merishi becomes new Controller and Auditor General of the government of India

Former home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi becomes new Controller and Auditor General (CAG) of the government of India. He has completed two years as Home Secretary of India.

Rajiv Mehrishi is retired IAS from 1978 batch belonging to the Rajasthan cadre.

Rajiv Mehrishi taking charge from Shashi Kant Sharma, who was joined CAG post on May 23, 2013.

CAG appointed for six years of tenure or 65 years of Age which ever happen earlier. This way Rajiv Mehrishi tenure will be for 3 years.

CAG is responsible of state government and Union government audit.

CAG reports are laid before parliament and legislatures of states.
