President of India gives Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2016 at Rashtrapati Bhawan
Ranganayaki Jayraman and Lalgudi G J R Krishnan were among the renowned artists who received the Sangeet Natak Akademi awards.
Two awards were presented, first, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships (Akademi Ratna) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskars).
In the field of music, dance, theatre were awarded the prizes
In the field of music eleven artists were awarded for Hindi Vocal and Instrumental music and Carnatic Vocal and instrumental Music.
In the field of dance, nine artists were awarded the prizes for different styles of dancing mainly Indian, Classical, Contemporary etc.
In the field of traditional theatre and puppetries 10 artists were awarded the prizes.
In the field of theatre, nine artists were awarded the prizes for their skilful work mainly direction, acting and designing.
