National Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Released New Rs 125 Commemorative Coin On National Statistical Day- Details
National Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu has released a commemorative coin of Rs 125 and circulation coin of Rs 5 denomination on the occasion of National Statistical Day and the 125th birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis on 29th June 2018.
Venkaiah Naidu unveiled the coin at Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in north Kolkata in the presence of Union Statistics Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and other dignitaries.
Venkaiah Naidu referred to PC Mahalanobis as the "Architect" of national sample survey organization and a "Visionary" who set up the north Kolkata institute.
Venkaiah Naidu further added "This is a wonderfully designed coin - a fitting tribute to Mahalanobis, who was a great soul and genius statistician. I am happy to be a part of this initiative,".
The event to celebrate National Statistics Day was jointly organised by the Union Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) on 29th June in Kolkata.
The Government of India in 2007 had designated June 29 as Statistics Day in the category of special days to be celebrated every year at the national level
