Thai Pongal four day festival in Tamil Nadu, details, relevance

Pongal is a four day long harvest festival of Tamil Nadu celebrated in the mid of January or February.

The celebration their harvest of rice, cereals, sugar cane and turmeric and pray for good harvest next year.

The people of Tamil Nadu call Pongal month as Thai and they believe that Pongal will solve all their problems.

People of Tamil Nadu generally marry in the month of Pongal as they believe the month to be very good

The first day of Pongal is known as Bhoti festival on 13th January and people celebrate this day by throwing their old household things in fire made up of wood and cow dung.

People also dance around the fire and sing songs.

The second day of Pongal is known as Surya Pongal which is devoted to Sun God where people boil rice in milk and offer to Sun God.

Third day of Pongal is known as Mithu Pongal which is devoted to cow wher epeopel tie garlands, beads and bells around the neck of cow.

The fourth day of Pongal is known as Kannum Pongal, women wake up early and pray for their husband.
