The three reconnaissance parties were launched from Hot Springs in North Eastern Ladakh on 20 October 1959.
It was founded that two parties of the three returned to Hot Springs by the afternoon of that day. The third one comprising of two Police Constables and a Porter did not come back.
Search for the missing personnel started. Deputy Central Intelligence Officer Karam Singh led some 20 Police personnel went ahead on horseback while others followed on foot.
Chinese Army personnel opened fire and threw grenades at the Indian party from the hillock, taking advantage of the situation.
The ten brave police personnel attained martyrdom and seven others sustained injured injuries during the fight.
Chines took seven of the injured to prison and the bodies of the ten personnel were returned by the Chinese a full three weeks after the incident.
