Pakistan hosted its first ever Shanghai Cooperation Organisation-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS) legal experts meeting in Islamabad.
The SCO-RATS meeting was a three-day meeting scheduled to hold from 23rd May 2018-25th May 2018.
This was the first-ever SCO meeting being held in Pakistan since it became a permanent member of the organisation along with India in June 2017.
The SCO-RATS meeting saw the participation of legal advisors from eight SCO member countries including China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan as well as representatives of the SCO-RATS executive committee.
The SCO-RATS meeting main purpose was to discuss issues related to terrorist threats in the region and how to overcome them.
The SCO-RATS meeting stressed upon terrorist threats being faced by the region and ways and means to enhance regional cooperation in fighting terrorism, drug trafficking and organised crime between SCO member states.
Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) is a permanent organ of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
RATS serve to promote cooperation of member states against three evils of terrorism, separatism and extremism. It is headquartered in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The Head of RATS is elected to the three-year term. Each member state also sends a permanent representative to RATS.
