Krishna Kumari Kohli from Pakistan's Sindh province has become the first Hindu minority community woman Senator in the Muslim majority country Pakistan.
Krishna Kumari Kohli hails from Thar, is a member of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan People's Party (PPP) who has become the first Dalit woman to be elected to the upper house of Pakistan’s parliament.
Krishna Kumari Kohli also known as Kishoo Bai aged 39-year-old, acquired a ticket for a Senate seat by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and is also among the final 12 candidates after others withdrew their candidatures.
Krishna Kumari Kohli won the election for the reserved seat for women from Sindh province. The election took place on 3rd March 2018.
Krishna Kumari Kohli election victory demonstrates a major milestone for women and minority rights in Pakistan. Earlier PPP had elected first Hindu woman named Ratna Bhagwandas Chawla as a senator.
Ratna Bhagwandas Chawla is a politician of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the first Hindu woman elected to the Senate of Pakistan.She represented the province of Sindh from 2006 to 2012.
