Oxytocin is a peptide hormone and neuropeptide. It is produced by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary.
Oxytocin plays a role in various behaviours, including orgasm, social recognition, pair bonding, anxiety and maternal behaviours.
