The aim, Role of National Commission for Backward Classes as per NCBC Act 1993 for OBCs welfare

The commission considers inclusions in and exclusions from the lists of communities notified as backward for the purpose of job reservations and tenders the needful advice to the Central Government as per Section 9(1) of the NCBC Act, 1993.

The states have also constituted commissions for BC's. As of 24 July 2014 over two thousand groups have been listed as OBCs.

Both the National Commission for Backward Classes and National Commission for Scheduled Castes have the same powers as a Civil Court.

National Commission People belonging to the Other Backward Classes will soon be able to approach a new National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) with Constitutional status to get their grievances redressed.

Under Article 338(5) read with Article 338(10) of the Constitution, National Commission for Scheduled Castes is the competent authority to look into all the grievances, rights and safeguards relating to Backward Classes.

NCBC examines a request for inclusion of castes into backward classes and hears complaints of over and under inclusion.

Its advice is generally binding upon the central government. Further, every 10 years, the central government undertakes a revision of the lists by consulting it. T
