Under the leadership of Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has approved its operational measures for Operation Green on November 05, 2018.
In order to ensure the supply and availability of tomatoes, onions and potatoes without the fluctuations in the prices throughout the country for the whole year.
the Government had announced Operation Green at the cost of 500 crores in the budget speech of 2018-19.
The measures taken by the Ministry include the following points: -
(I) Short-term price stabilization measures
Nafed will be the top agency in implementing the price stabilization measure.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries will give 50 per cent subsidy on the following two components.
i. Transportation of potatoes, onions and tomato crops from production to stores.
ii. Rent of proper storage facilities for tomatoes, onions and potato crops;
(II) Long-Term Integrated Value Chain Development Project
i. Capacity Building of Farmer Generation Organization (FPO) and their centres
ii. Quality production
iii. Post-harvest processing facility
iv. Agricultural equipment
v. Marketing / Consumption Center
vi. Construction and management of e-platform for demand and supply management of tomatoes, onion and potato crops
