Odisha State Government has introduced a new Health Insurance Scheme for the journalists named as Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana on 31st May 2018, which came into effect from 1st June 2018.
This Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme provides Rs. 2 Lakh per annum health insurance cover to all working journalists of the Odisha state.
The Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme initially, in its first phase will cover around 3200 journalists and their family members from various media groups.
The scheme insurance coverage will be applicable for cashless treatment in government and private hospitals.
The scheme will also cover the injuries and illness faced by journalists while performing their duties.
The scheme has been named after Gopalbandhu Das (1877-1928) a prominent social worker, reformer, political activist, journalist, poet and essayist of Odisha. His contribution to art, culture and society to Odisha earned him the epithet of Utkalmani (jewel of Odisha).
