NSG (National Security Guards) History, Objectives, Head Office, Training, Director General of NSG

NSG is a federal Contingency World Class Zero Error Force to deal with anti-terrorist activities in all its manifestation. The NSG is a force specially equipped and trained to deal with specific situations and therefore, to be used only in exceptional circumstances to thwart serious acts of terrorism.

NSG is under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs. It is not categorized under the uniform nomenclature of Central Armed Police Forces.

History of the NSG

NSG was raised in 1984, following Operations Blue Star and assassination of Indira Gandhi, for combating terrorist activities with a view to protecting states against internal disturbances.

Sudeep Lakhtakia is the Director General of NSG.

Special Features of NSG

The motto of NSG is ‘Sarvatra Sarvottama Suraksha’ (omnipresent omnipotent defense).

NSG has 7,350 active personnel and its annual budget is 816.10 crore. NSG headquarter is in New Delhi. Some significant operations of NSG are Black Thunder, Ashwamedh, Combat missions in Jammu and Kashmir, Vajra Shakti, and Black Tornado.

The NSG personnel is known as Black Cats because of their black outfit and black cat insignia worn on their uniform.
