Norway bans FM Radio, switches over to Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) broadcasting

The first country to ban FM Radio is Norway on 11th January by the northern council of Nordland.

The country Norway bans the FM radio broadcasting using analogue frequency to provide better radio services to its citizens.

DAB offers wide range of broadcasting options

The government wants to switch over the FM radio services to Digital Audio Broadcasting as it offers a wide range of broadcasting options and greater sound quality.

The ban of FM all over the country will be completed by the end of this year.

The government finds it expensive to provide FM signals to small population which live in mountains and hills.

It is also expected the switch over of FM radio to DAB will save 25 million US dollars in the country.
