In a significant move to provide a bigger platform to tribal handicrafts and to enable their wider reach, the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India, (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched ‘e-Tribes India’ on 27th March 2018 in New Delhi.
The e-Tribes India banner will cater on e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Snapdeal, Flipkart, Paytm Government E-Market (GeM) in order to promote tribal arts and crafts from across India.
Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, launched the ‘e-Tribes India’ at an event in New Delhi.
Minister Jual Oram at the launch event informed that with the ‘e-Tribes India’ more than 55,000 tribal artisans connected to TRIFED will be able to get access to local and international markets. This will result in reaping greater benefits for tribal artisans.
Jual Oram also launched the TRIFED’s websites (www.tribesindia.com), (www.trifed.in) and Retail Inventory Software and M-commerce app as part of Digital India Initiative.
Jual Oram on the occasion also introduced TRIFED’s Handbook for Retail Trade and TRIFED’s quarterly magazine ‘Tribes Haat’.
TRIFED is a multi-State Cooperative Society under Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It was established in August 1987 by Ministry of Welfare under Multi State Cooperative Societies Act 1984 (which has now been replaced by Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002).
TRIFED is headquartered in New Delhi.
TRIFED main aim is to promote & market tribal products, tribal art and crafts within the country and at a global level, by providing marketing support to tribal products through its network of retail outlets. It also organizes several exhibitions like National Tribal Craft Expo called “Aadi Mahotsav” etc.
